Early Life and the Genesis of 'As I See'

Born and raised in the shadow of Mount Merapi, in the village of Kaliurang, Sicovecas, whose real name is Obi, began his artistic journey in 2006. The moniker 'Sicovecas' is a creative play on the phrase "As I See (SIC)," reflecting his personal interpretation of the world around him. His early works were deeply influenced by the scenic landscapes of his hometown, with its lush greenery and proximity to the volcano, elements that subtly permeate his abstract creations.

Evolution of Style: From Graffiti to Abstract Visuals

Notable Projects and Collaborations

Starting with graffiti in the narrow alleys and abandoned structures of Sleman, northern Yogyakarta, Sicovecas developed a distinctive raw, abstract style. Over the years, he expanded his repertoire, experimenting with various mediums such as spray paint, acrylics, crayons, ceramics, resin, and mirrors. This evolution showcases his relentless pursuit of artistic growth and his desire to push the boundaries of conventional street art.

Exhibitions and Studio Practice

Beyond public murals, Sicovecas has made significant strides in the gallery scene. His solo exhibition, 'Behind the Curtains' at Artsphere Gallery in Jakarta, featured a series of paintings and installations centered around the motif of the window. This theme represented a portal of exchange between inner and outer worlds, reflecting his introspective approach to art.

He also had in 2024 a duo-show with Mutia at All About Gallery based in Singapore. The exhibition "Rhythm" represents their aspects of doing art. From all the feelings that occur, the theme is the rhythm of the life cycle that each human carries out, where all those feelings and emotions (sadness, happiness, fear, anger, etc...) will always be there and repeat periodically.
